Endorsement Meeting Notice

The Dolphin Democrats will be voting to endorse in the August 30, 2016 Primary at our July 13 Meeting. We have received requests to endorse:

  • Mike Satz for Broward State Attorney
  • Gwyndolen “Gwen” Clarke-Reed for State Senate, District 34
  • Paulette Armstead for State House, District 92
  • Ken Keechl for State House District 93
  • Patrick Jabouin for State House, District 95
  • Anika Tene Omphroy for State House, District 95
  • Mitch Ceasar for Broward Clerk of Courts
  • Elizabeth Ann McHugh for Broward Clerk of Courts
  • Scott Israel for Broward County Sheriff
  • Brenda Snipes for Broward Supervisor of Elections
  • Dave Brown for Broward Supervisor of Elections
  • Nan Rich for County Commission, District 1
  • Steve Geller for County Commission, District 5
  • Dale Holness for County Commission, District 9
  • Chris Smith for County Commission, District 9
  • Patricia Good for Broward School Board, District 2
  • Rosalind Osgood for Broward County School Board, District 5
  • Robin Bartleman for Broward County School Board, District 9, “At Large”

Endorsing them requires a supermajority (2/3 majority vote) at the membership meeting.

We have received requests to endorse other candidates who have no primary opponent. We will be considering those endorsements at our September 14 meeting.  We will also be considering all municipal endorsements at the September 14 meeting as well.

We have also received a request to endorse Debbie Wasserman Schultz as well. Because her district is in both Miami-Dade and Broward Counties, her endorsement is the responsibility of the Florida LGBTA Democratic Caucus. If the caucus declines to endorse in that race at the July 9 meeting in Fort Lauderdale at the Bahia Mar, then the Dolphin Democrats will have an opportunity to endorse at our August 10 meeting.

If you are a paid 2016 Dolphin Democrats member, and you would like to request the Dolphin Democrats to endorse a candidate in the August 30 primary election, send an email to info@dolphindems.org with your name, the name of the candidate, the office they are seeking, and the reason(s) you believe the Dolphin Democrats should endorse that candidate before June 24, 2016.  That will allow us to consider your request at the July 13 membership meeting. We can only consider candidates whose district or office exists ONLY in Broward County.  Candidates in more than one county are the responsibility of the Florida LGBTA Democratic Caucus.  If the caucus declines to endorse in a multi county race at the July 9 meeting in Fort Lauderdale at the Bahia Mar, then the Dolphin Democrats will have an opportunity to endorse at our August 10 meeting.

The Dolphin Democrats  Deeply Grieve the Loss of our LGBTA Sisters and Brothers in Orlando

The Dolphin Democrats are deeply saddened by the tragic events at Pulse nightclub in Orlando . We will support, with our wounded hearts, those who have been lost and those who are suffering that loss as we work together for a better future. It is imperative for all LGBTA Americans to vote and give credence to those whose lives were lost.  Though their voices may not be heard anymore in this life, their voices will be heard eternally for their unwilling life’s sacrifice, because they vigorously embraced their own sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression. The Dolphin Democrats will work to elect Democrats who are champions of Equality, Inclusion, and who stand firmly against hatred, so that these unwilling heroes sacrifice of life will not be forgotten, and will not have been in vain. Voting for Democrats IS voting for Love.

Vision Statement

“Our voices seek to instill awareness in the freedoms of a democratic society”. Educating future leaders and supporting the community at large. Maintain an ongoing rapport and increasing viability with political entities.”

Mission Statement

“Further, it shall be the mission of this organization to foster good will between gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) members of the Democratic Party and the community at large. We seek individual freedom in the framework of a just society and political freedom in the framework of meaningful participation by all citizens.”

President’s Message;

“Today is a day of pride and joy as is every Shabbat. I thought at one time that same sex marriage in the United States would never be achieved in our lifetime. Many toiled in the trenches to achieve equal rights for the LGBT community, so although we still have to fight for equality, much progress has been achieved.”

“You can’t have equality in one state and not another. Today is a historic milestone,”
