Dolphin Dems Round 3 Of Endorsed Candidates

On Wednesday, July 27, 2022 Dolphin Dems is announcing its first round of endorsements for the primary midterm election.  After careful review of the questionnaire, support and records, the members voted to make the following endorsements:

Candidates With a Primary: 

Rod Velez for School Board District 1

Ruth Carter-Lynch for School Board District 5

Allen Zeman for School Board District 8 At-Large

We would like to thank the candidates for completing our extensive questionnaire, the Campaign & Endorsement Committee for all their hard work and to the members who attended this endorsement meeting to vote for the candidates.

This meeting will be for voting members only. Registration Link has been emailed to all voting members.
Check-in will start at 6:45pm
Meeting will start promptly at 7:00pm
This will be an endorsements only meeting, no other business will be conducted

2022 Midterm Election – Endorsement Dates

The Dolphin Democrats’ first round of endorsements will be held in-person at our Membership Meeting Wednesday, July 13, 2022 at 7:00pm at The Pride Center

The Campaign & Elections Committee invited all candidates who are registered as Democrats running for election to participate in the endorsement process.

Following are the seats that will be endorsed at the July 13th meeting, and the candidates running for those seats who submitted the completed questionnaire by the provided deadline:

State Senate D-35: Lauren Book

State House D-100: Linda Thompson Gonzalez

Broward County Commission D-8: Bobby Dubose

Broward County Commission D-9:  Guithele Ruiz-Nicolas

Broward County School Board D-7: Nora Rupert

Completed questionnaires by candidates seeking an endorsement will be emailed to all the voting members.

To win the endorsement a candidate must get 2/3 of all the votes casted by eligible voting members at the endorsement meeting.

To be eligible to vote you must be a Dolphin Dems member for at least 30 days prior to any endorsement meeting.  Voting members must be registered Democrats living in and registered to vote in Broward County.

 

IN ADDITION AT THIS MEETING:

In anticipation of the Florida LGBTQ+ Democratic Caucus endorsement of the following seats at the July 22-24 Summer Conference, we will conduct the following Straw Polls for:

Dolphin Dems Endorses Dr. Rosalind Osgood for State Senate D33

We are excited to announce that Dolphin Democrats members have endorsed Dr. Rosalind Osgood for Senate District 33 for the primary election to take place on Tuesday, January 11, 2022

Congratulations to Dr. Osgood; we are excited to get behind her campaign.  Dr. Osgood’s campaign for SD 33 has also been endorsed by the Florida LGBTQ+ Democratic Caucus.

The members of the Dolphin Democrats were not able to endorse a candidate to State House D94.

Endorsement Meeting – Tuesday, August 14, 2021

The Dolphin Democrats will be hosting a special membership meeting to endorse a candidate to State House D94 and a candidate to State House D33.

This meeting will take place via Zoom on Tuesday, August 14 at 7:00pm.   The meeting will last between 15-30 minutes.  A registration link has been emailed to all voting members.

The Primary Election for this two seat will take place on Tuesday, January 11, 2021.  That same day will also be the General Election for U.S. Congress D23.

Board of Directors Election

On Wednesday, February 10, 2021 the members of The Dolphin Democrats Elected Alfredo Olvera as President and Nik Harris as Vice-President for a second term expiring in 2023.  At the same meeting the members also elected Tina Jaramillo to Secretary, Hillary Dougherty to Treasurer.  In addition Emma Collum, Grecia Rivas-Smith, Lorenzo Robertson, Adam Sabin, Vanessa Villaverde, Nick Zantop and Jose Cedeno were elected as Directors.

We are all excited to see the board continuing their political work on behalf of LGBTQ+ Democrats in Broward County. Congratulations to all.
