Candidate Questionnaires
Before you vote, look here for the completed questionnaires candidates have returned to us with questions and answers relating to the LGBT Community. Most candidates listed on this page (except municipal and the special district candidates at the bottom) have been sent a Dolphin Democrats Candidate Questionnaire. In officially non-partisan elections, we have identified the party affiliation of each candidate unless their voter record has been redacted because they are a sitting judge, prosecutor, or law enforcement officer. Judicial candidate questionnaires we have received are all posted. Missing questionnaires we have not had returned to us are noted next to the candidate’s name. In all municipal races, and races where there is only one Democrat (Broward County Property Appraiser, Broward County Commission. District 3), the questionnaires are not due until September 12. We will not send questionnaires to candidates who are not Democrats.

Amendments Schmamendments
The membership did not vote on recommendations for Amendments and other ballot initiatives at our September 14 meeting. The Campaign committee noted on their draft palm cad theses were campaign committee recommendations only. Some board members did not want anything on the palm card that did not get voted on by the membership. As of yet a meeting with a quorum of the board has not voted on this. so we are posting the recommendations of the Campaign committee here.
- Amendment 1 – Solar – The Dolphin Democrats Campaign Committee recommends a No. Environmentalists say this is an FPL AstroTurf Amendment, a Trojan Horse that people think helps solar when it really makes it harder for homeowners to install solar on their property. The Dolphin Democrats Campaign Committee recommends No on 1
- Amendment 2 – Medical Marijuana – The Dolphin Democrats Campaign Committee recommends a Yes. It’s self explanatory – Helpful for people living with AIDS and cancer sufferers among many other peoples illnesses including lack of appetite ;-), the Dolphin Democrats Campaign Committee recommends a Yes vote.
- Amendment 3 – Put on by the legislature. The Dolphin Democrats Campaign Committee recommends a Yes
- Amendment 5 – The Dolphin Democrats Campaign Committee recommends a No
- Charter Review committee terms – The Dolphin Democrats Campaign Committee recommends a Yes. Click (HERE) for the background info presented to the County Commission by the Charter Review Commission to put this item on the ballot.
- Abolish the Management Efficiency Review Committee The Dolphin Democrats Campaign Committee has no recommendation. Click (HERE) for the background info presented to the County Commission by the Charter Review Commission to put this item on the ballot.
- 1/2 Penny Sales Tax – The Dolphin Democrats Campaign Committee recommends a No on both of them.
- There is no oversight established just like on the School Board $800 Million Bond issue two years ago that not a penny has been spent to fix a school yet but that was what it was all about.
- This is supposed to create more transportation infrastructure. However, if our elected officials at all levels from Local to State had done their jobs, developments would not have been approved without payments to improve infrastructure in the first place. The lack of initiative in biting the bullet because developers contribute to elected officials campaign is now making your taxes go up when it should have been handled with some proactive planning and creating strong infrastructure impact fees on all developments that add living units. And there would not be a regular traffic jam at 10 AM every day at I-95 and Broward Boulevard. Can you repeat the phrase “Lexus Lanes?”
- Some local elected officials consider this their piggybank for places to get money to spend on pet projects.
- This is a huge public piggy bank for developers and construction companies to target so they don’t have to pay infrastructure impact fees, and can significantly improve their bottom line.
- Sales taxes cost the poorest of us more than they cost anyone else because every penny they have counts. They have to pay sales tax to by laundry detergent, but purchases of over $25,000 are exempt from sales tax. If the very poorest have to pay sales tax on necessities like laundry detergent, people who can afford to drop more than $25,000 at a time should pay for their non-essentials.
