Florida LGBTQ+ Democratic Caucus – Winter Conference
2023 Winter Conference, Orlando
The 2023 Winter Conference of the Florida LGBTQ+ Democratic Caucus at
The Renaissance Airport Hotel in Orlando is around the corner!
February 24 – 26
Florida Democrats and the LGBTQ+ community are under fire from Republicans intent on erasing us and our values from the Sunshine State.
What do we do? RISE UP!
Join the Florida LGBTQ+ Democratic Caucus in Orlando February 24-26 for our 2023 Winter Conference. Our sessions and speakers will point the way for our party and our community and outline the challenges facing us in the upcoming legislative session.
You’ll hear from all the candidates running for FDP chair, one of whom will be elected this weekend to rebuild the party. We’ll have panels on how to engage young people, who are our next generation of leaders, and on the new frontline battle on LGBTQ+ and personal freedom issues — Florida’s school boards. We’ll also have a training session from ActBlue on digital fundraising, plus we’ll also hear from a ton of elected officials and policymakers who want to hear from you!
The in-person event with a virtual Livestream option brings together activists, allies, advocates, candidates, elected officials, and policymakers for a weekend of planning and networking.
Why does this matter?
We must RISE UP together now more than ever here in Florida after the 2022 Midterm Elections!
“The contrast of visions for Florida cannot be any starker,” said Stephen Gaskill, president of the Florida LGBTQ+ Democratic Caucus. “While Democrats work to lift up and support the diverse community of Floridians, Republicans shamefully hurt their own constituents with culture war attacks designed to distract from Republican inaction on economic issues.”
Our program is in development, and speakers are being added daily. Early registration and ticket prices are in effect until Friday, February 3, at 4 PM. Our special hotel room block runs through that time too and is first come, first served. The event program, ticket, registration, and room links are below.

Board of Directors Election
On Wednesday, February 10, 2021 the members of The Dolphin Democrats Elected Alfredo Olvera as President and Nik Harris as Vice-President for a second term expiring in 2023. At the same meeting the members also elected Tina Jaramillo to Secretary, Hillary Dougherty to Treasurer. In addition Emma Collum, Grecia Rivas-Smith, Lorenzo Robertson, Adam Sabin, Vanessa Villaverde, Nick Zantop and Jose Cedeno were elected as Directors.
We are all excited to see the board continuing their political work on behalf of LGBTQ+ Democrats in Broward County. Congratulations to all.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Dear Members
This Thanksgiving, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the year and express gratitude for each of you. 2020 has certainly challenged us in ways we didn’t think possible last year. But, your resilience during the Covid-19 crisis, your responsibility for health and safety, and your dedication to our organization continue to inspire me.  Â
Your determination has allowed us to accomplish so much despite the difficulties and uncertainty we faced. You attended meetings, helped with voter registration, phone banked, and more. Thank you so much for being part of the Dolphin Democrats family. Â
Your dedication to the work and to democracy allowed us to endorse, support, and elect so many pro-equality candidates. It was because of you that we had a strong presence at early voting locations. It was because of you that our organization grew more than ever.
I am honored to serve as your president. And, I’m grateful for all the energy you continue to bring to this organization and for your commitment to building justice and equity in Broward County.
Have a happy and safe Thanksgiving.
Thank you,Â
Alfredo Olvera – President

New Logo
The Dolphin Democrats Board of Directors is excited to announce and present the organization’s updated logo.
We wish that when any LGBTQ+ person whether they are a Democrats or just part of the community at-large sees this logo, they feel represented and hopefully get encouraged to join us in the fight for equality and continue the legacy of those before us.
We would like to thank the talented Landon St. Gordon for designing the log and Mike Worley at MDWCOMM ( https://mdwcommunications.com/) for their contribution to our organization. We will be forever grateful.
We Are Excited To Endorse Joe Biden
At a June 3rd meeting, the members of the Florida LGBTQ+ Democratic Caucus endorsed Joe Biden for President. As an affiliate chapter of the State Caucus, the Dolphin Democrats also endorse Joe Biden for President.
As of today, Former Vice President Joe Biden has surpassed the 1991 delegates to claim the nomination on the first ballot of the Democratic Convention.
It is time to do the work and send much needed new leadership to “1600 Black Lives Matter Plaza”
